Ansonia Rotary Recognizes First Responders

ANSONIA — The following press release was submitted by the Ansonia Rotary Club.

Under bright, sunny skies, State Representative Kara Rochelle, Senator Jorge Cabrera and Mayor David Cassetti were on hand March 27 at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Ansonia to help the Ansonia Rotary Club present their annual Community Service Awards to three outstanding fire, police and ARMS service members.

Each year, the Club asks three frontline City departments to identify their top performers during the past year.

Normally, such recognition takes place at a dinner event in October, but the ceremony was postponed and held outside due to the restrictions imposed by the COVID pandemic.

Club President Joseph Pinto presented medals and gifts to: Officer Peter Lovermi III of the Ansonia Police Department, Lt. Scott Foster, of the Eagle Hose Co., and EMT Joseph Wapner of the Ansonia Rescue Medical Service.

Rep. Rochelle and Sen. Cabrera presented each awardee with a proclamation from the Connecticut General Assembly, while Mayor Cassetti provided each with a proclamation from the City.

As City department, Rotary Club and family members mingled in the park space, each honoree’s attributes were cited by President Pinto. The theme of selflessness, role-modeling and consistent excellence was evident throughout each officers’ commendation. Mayor Cassetti noted how important their contributions are to the City’s health and wellbeing, and how necessary it is to say Thank You to our first responders. Each of the honorees replied to the recognition with a very modest comment, further evidence of their professionalism.

The Ansonia Rotary Club meets bi-monthly at Crave Restaurant on Tuesdays at 12:15 PM. Call Joe Pinto for more information, 203 – 623-1105.
