Cyclist Struck By Car In Seymour

A 40-year-old man cycling on Squantuck Road (Route 188) was badly injured after being struck by a car in Seymour Wednesday.

The crash happened about 11 a.m., according to a prepared statement from Seymour Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Satkowski.

The man’s injuries were described as potentially life threatening.” His name was not released.

The name of the driver who hit him was also not released Wednesday. Police described her as a 20-year-old woman from Oxford.

The bicyclist was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Police said he was in critical but stable condition.

Police did not say where the man is from.

According to Satkowski’s statement, the cyclist was heading north when the woman’s car struck him from behind. The driver was not hurt.

There was no mention of enforcement action in Satkowski’s release.

The accident remains under investigation by members of the Seymour Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit,” according to the news release.
