Eddy’s In Ansonia Closes

ANSONIA — Eddy’s Bake Shop on Main Street is closed, according to a post on the shop’s Facebook page Friday.

We would like to take a minute and Thank all of our customers for their continued support in the past (two) years,” read the post, which was accompanied by an image reading thank you.”

Unfortunately Eddy’s Bake Shop will not be reopening (its) doors.”

Eddy’s roots in Ansonia go back more than 50 years.

Long-time owners Paul and Michael Ciocca announced their retirement in July 2017.

A new owner, Arlene Cardenas, according to The CT Post, eventually took over the shop.

A sign went up in the bake shop’s window in the beginning of August saying the business was taking a summer vacation. Patrons were told to follow social media for the re-opening, but there were no updates until Friday.

The Main Street bakery’s month-long absence had triggered questions from Ansonia residents who are members of a very active Facebook community forum.

The original Eddy’s was well-known for its rye bread and annual Fat Tuesday Paczki-eating contest.

The shop, in its announcement on Facebook, noted that Eddy’s sister bakery, Marjolaine Pastry Shop, is still open in New Haven.

The Valley Indy messaged Eddy’s Thursday through Facebook seeking comment. The space is at 317 Main St.
