Man Accused Of Spewing Hate In Derby Arrested Twice More

Mongold

A 30-year-old man already facing a felony charge for allegedly spewing racist slurs at a group of Derby High School students has picked up two additional criminal cases.

Keith Mongold was first arrested by Derby police Dec. 3, 2018 and charged with second-degree intimidation based on bigotry or bias.

Mongold, during a dispute with a landlord on Hawthorne Avenue, started threatening people on the street, including a group of students walking home from school, according to eyewitnesses.

He repeatedly called them the n‑word” and screamed white power” and heil, heil, heil, heil” while doing a Nazi salute.

That case, a felony, is still pending in court in Derby.

On Dec. 9 Mongold was charged by Seymour police with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. Both charges are misdemeanors. Additional info was not available.

On June 26 Mongold was arrested again, this time in Shelton, where he allegedly threw an electronic tablet at his girlfriend, hitting her in the head, police said. He is also accused of kicking the woman, whose 4‑year-old son was present during the altercation, police said.

Shelton police charged Mongold with risk of injury to a child, a felony, along with three misdemeanor crimes: third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct.

He was scheduled to appear in court July 11 for a pre-trial hearing.
