A motorcycle rider was badly injured after a crash on Main Street Monday evening.

The person was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital on a trauma alert.

The crash happened at about 7 p.m. when the motorcycle and a sedan collided near the Caroline Street intersection.

The Valley Indy does not have the injured person’s name. The person in the car was not hurt.

Police sent out a statement Tuesday only identifying the rider as a 37-year-old woman. She was in critical but stable condition after the crash.

In addition, police said a preliminary investigation shows the car driver to be at-fault for the wreck.

Police did not release the car driver’s name or state whether any enforcement action was taken. The Valley Indy requested the person’s name.

Derby police shut Main Street downtown until about 12 a.m. to conduct an investigation.

That indicates serious injuries to the motorcycle rider.
