No New Cases For COVID Wednesday, Health District Urges Caution

The Naugatuck Valley Health District reported no new cases for the COVID-19 virus Wednesday (June 17).

While that is undoubtedly positive news, Jessica Stelmaszek urged the public to continue taking precautions against COVID-19, a new virus to humans to which there is no effective treatment nor vaccine.

Naugatuck Valley Health District has 0 new cases and 0 deaths to report today! I ask your assistance in still promoting compliance with social distancing and wearing masks/face coverings in public, and also practicing good hygiene like proper hand washing,” Stelmaszek wrote in an email Wednesday.

Stelmaszek is the NVHDs director of health.

Especially with phase 2 reopening of businesses today, we do not want to lose sight of the importance of practicing precautions as they are necessary to continue to move forward and not set the Valley backward,” she wrote.

There were no new COVID-19 associated deaths reported Wednesday, either.

On the state level, Gov. Ned Lamont’s office released a Tweet Wednesday showing positive trends.

We’re seeing the right trends in CT,” Lamont’s Tweet read. Out of the 6,430 tests since yesterday’s update, only 80 came back positive – 1.2 (percent). We also have the lowest hospitalizations since mid-March. We’re one of the exceptions to the trends around the country. Together, let’s keep it that way.”

A second Tweet from Lamont is embedded below:

The table below is from the Naugatuck Valley Health District. It shows the number of positive and negative test results in the Valley (Oxford is not covered by the NVHD) since March as of June 16:
