Seymour GOP Clarifies BOE Candidate List

SEYMOUR — Members of the Republican Town Committee, which held its nominating caucus this week, were told Friday that they nominated one too many candidates for the Board of Education.

The GOP already had five candidates vying for what it believed were four available seats. But on Friday, GOP Chairman Richard Demko was informed by the Town Clerk’s office that there were only three available open seats on the Board of Education.

A paper ballot vote was held during Wednesday’s caucus to fill the four seats, and the top four vote getters were endorsed. Those with the most votes were Bruno (65 votes), Champagne (66 votes), Levy (67 votes) and Kubik (54 votes).

Now Kubik, as the second lowest vote getter, is out. That leaves the three endorsed candidates as Bruno, Champagne and Levy.

Demko said there’s some confusion in a state law governing how many candidates can be endorsed and how it applies in this case, so he’s double checking with a lawyer.
