Shelton Fire Department Weekly Calls

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from the last two weeks.

On 04/04/18 at 11:52 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Marriott Residence Inn at #1001 Bridgeport Avenue for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. An engine responded.

On 04/04/18 at 2:24 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the Super Stop & Shop Plaza at #898 Bridgeport Avenue for a public service call, lockout. An engine responded.

On 04/05/18 at 02:31 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #55 Woodfield Drive for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. An engine responded.

On 04/05/18 at 10:28 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #389 Bridgeport Avenue for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 04/05/18 at 12:00 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #4102 Avalon Drive for an odor of natural gas. Two engines and a rescue truck responded.

On 04/05/18 at 4:44 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the Elizabeth Shelton School at #138 Willoughby Road for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 04/05/18 at 7:08 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Canfield Drive. An engine responded.

On 04/05/18 at 11:14 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 8 north near exit 12. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 04/06/18 at 7:22 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #51 Sunset Drive for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 04/06/18 at 12:31 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #9 Cots Street for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. A leaking fire sprinkler caused the alarm. An engine responded.

On 04/06/18 at 5:46 pm Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded DJ’S Pizza at #725 Bridgeport Avenue for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. A faulty detector caused the alarm. Two engines and a rescue truck responded.

On 0/06/18 at 6:18 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a small fuel spill from its fire truck in the parking lot of Panchero’s at #720 Bridgeport Avenue. 

On 04/07/18 at 5:15 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle fire on Route 8 north near exit 12. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 04/08/18 at 10:03 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the Shelton Animal Hospital at #895 Bridgeport Avenue for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. Dust from construction caused the alarm. An engine responded.

On 04/08/18 at 3:51 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #34 Poplar Drive for an illegal open burn in the back yard. An engine responded.

On 04/08/18 at 4:08 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #90 Birdseye Road for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. A faulty detector caused the alarm. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 04/08/18 at 5:43 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #11 Vaillancoourt Lane for a gas grill on fire. Upon arrival firefighters extinguished the fire that consumed the grill and damaged a rear deck and the homes siding. Three engines and a ladder truck responded.

On 04/08/18 at 6:55 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of #661 River Road. Two engines a two rescue trucks responded.

On 04/09/18 at 03:16 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of a car fire in the area of #26 Walnut Tree Hill Road. Upon arrival firefighters extinguished the fire but not before it consumed the vehicle. The vehicle’s driver and three occupants were rescued from the vehicle by a nearby home owner. Prior to the fire department’s arrival, the home owner heard the vehicles engine racing and when he looked outside he saw the vehicle, which was parked in the travel portion of the road facing the wrong way in its lane, had a fire in the engine and front wheel areas. The home owner ran to the vehicle and found the driver asleep and he pulled him out from the smoke filled car. A few minutes later he then learned from the driver that there were two more occupants in the rear seat. The home owner returned to the car and found two others sleeping in the rear seat who he then eventually pulled out of the smoke filled vehicle. Within minutes the vehicle was completely engulfed in fire. The fire department then arrived within minutes of the call. All occupants of the vehicle were checked by EMS at the scene. Two engines and a rescue truck responded.

On 04/09/18 at 3:51 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to assist police on River Road at Moulthroup Lane. One engine responded.

On 04/09/18 at 9:09 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to The Mark Apartments at #738 Bridgeport Avenue for an odor of natural gas in the building. Three engines, a rescue truck, a ladder and two utility trucks responded. 

On 04/10/18 at 01:48 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #28 Oak Avenue for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. An engine responded.

On 04/10/18 at 2:01 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Toas Street at Woonsocket Avenue. A rescue truck responded.

On 04/10/18 at 2:55 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the area of #111 Sawmill City Road for a low hanging wire. An engine responded.

On 04/10/18 at 5:14 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #100 Kings Highway for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 04/10/18 at 8:41 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #7 Dodge Drive for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. An engine responded.

On 04/11/18 at 10:09 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #420 Howe Avenue for water leaking into an apartment from a unit above. A rescue truck responded.

On 04/11/18 at 5:40 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #41 Canterbury Lane for a brush fire. Fire units responding determined the fire was in Monroe. Two engines responded.

On 04/12/18 at 12:06 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #47 Leavenworth Road for a brush fire. Two engines responded.

On 04/13/18 at 1:35 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a motor vehicle accident car into a structure at #202 Howe Avenue. Damage was minor. A unit responded.

On 04/13/18 at 7:58 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Ripton at #423 Howe Avenue for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 04/14/18 at 10:04 am the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #109 Longmeadow Road for a person and a dog stuck in the middle of a pond. Two rescue trucks responded.

On 04/14/18 at 2:20 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to the Chipotle Mexican Grill at #701 Bridgeport Avenue for a small fire in landscaped mulch in front of the building. A rescue truck responded.

On 04/14/18 at 3:39 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to Shelton Auto Body Shop at #374 Coram Avenue for a large sign that had fallen over on to two vehicles in the parking lot. A rescue truck responded.

On 04/14/18 at 6:40 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #325 Navajo Loop for an odor in the home. Firefighters determined a problem with the furnace caused the odor. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 04/15/18 at 11:43 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a small brush fire at #49 Long Hill Avenue. Three engines responded.

On 04/15/18 at 3:23 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #68 Mohegan Road for an odor of gas in the home. Firefighters found the odor was due to a lawn mower leaking gasoline in the garage. An engine responded.
