Shelton Fire Department Weekly Calls

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from the last week.

On 01/02/18 at 8:35 am the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #97 Kanungum Trail for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. An engine responded.

On 01/02/18 at 12:21 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Sikorsky Aircraft Plant III at #33 Platt Road. There was no fire. The alarm was accidentally transmitted by contractors working in the building. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 01/02/18 at 6:37 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a carbon monoxide incident at the Russell Speeder Car Wash at #811 River Road. A portable heater being used to warm the wash area filled the office area with fumes causing employees to feel ill. An engine, a rescue truck, a ladder truck and the tower truck responded.

On 01/02/18 at 7:31 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #23 Great Oak Road for an odor of smoke in the home. Upon arrival the homeowner claimed that smoke from her neighbor’s wood stove was filling her home. Firefighters using meters found no levels of smoke or an odor in the home. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/03/18 at 9:53 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Brownson Drive. An engine responded.

On 01/03/18 at 8:09 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Avalon Shelton II at #185 Canal Street. There was no fire. A broken sprinkler pipe in the parking garage caused the alarm. An engine, rescue truck and a ladder truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 10:30 am the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #35 Wabuda Place to assist EMS with an ambulance stuck in the snow. A utility truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 10:50 am the 10:50 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #708 Bridgeport Avenue to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 12:01 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #112 Poplar Drive to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 12:30 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #1 Far Mill Crossing to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 1:28 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding from the Helen DeVaux Housing Complex at #91 Howe Avenue. There was no fire. Steam from a heater caused the alarm. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/17 at 2:14 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #4 Fairmont Place to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 4:42 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #786 Howe Avenue to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 6:43 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #45 Blacks Hill Road to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 7:01 pm theHuntington Co. #3 responded to #112 Poplar Drive to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 7:19 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #97 Old Stratford Road to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. An engine responded.

On 01/04/18 at 7:52 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #27 Elizabeth Street to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 8:07 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #18 Oak Avenue for smoke in the building. There was no fire. An engine, a rescue truck and a utility truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 8:57 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #16 Winthrop Woods Road to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 9:21 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Avalon Shelton II at #185 Canal Street. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. Two engines, a rescue truck and a ladder truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 9:44 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #40 Golec Avenue to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 01/04/18 at 10:26 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #21 Sinsabaugh Heights to assist EMS due to heavy snow conditions during a storm. A ladder truck responded.

On 01/05/18 at 03:14 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a car fire at #88 Hillside Avenue. Firefighters arrived and extinguished a fire that destroyed the cars engine compartment. Two engines responded.

On 01/05/18 at 04:40 am the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a public service call at #59 Sinsabaugh Heights. A furnace problem caused the call. An engine responded.

On 01/05/18 at 11:44 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #42 New Castle Drive for a public service call. A broken water pipe was the reason for the call. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/05/18 at 12:24 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #194 Sunwood Drive for an odor of natural gas in the home. Firefighters checked the home but found no odors or reading of gas in the home. A rescue truck and a ladder truck responded.

On 01/06/18 at 9:45 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the Town of Trumbull to assist at the scene of a house fire at #53 Beach Hill Drive. An engine and a tanker truck responded.

On 01/06/18 at 11:49 am the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Long Hill Cross Road. An engine responded.

On 01/06/18 at 11:52 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #665 River Road for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/06/18 at 12:10 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #14 Red Oak Circle. There was no fire. Two engines responded.

On 01/07/18 at 2:33 am the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #45 Nicholdale Road for smoke in the house. No smoke or fire 2was found by firefighters. An engine responded.

On 01/07/18 at 8:11 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Hewitt Hospital #45 Maltby Street for a person stuck in an elevator. The person was safely out of the elevator before the arrival of any fire units. 

On 01/07/18 at 12:42 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #93 Williams Street to assist EMS with a toddler whose hair was stuck in a treadmill. The child was freed without injury. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 01/07/18 at 3:23 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #29 Brookpine Drive for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. The levels of the gas in the home was attributed to a car running in the garage. An engine responded.

On 01/07/18 at 4:39 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a public service call, water pump out, at #34 Summerfield Gardens. A broken water pipe caused the incident. An engine responded.

On 01/07/18 at 5:08 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #35 Lynne Terrace for a public service call, a broken water pipe. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 01/07/18 at 5:31 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Ripton Housing Complex at #423 Howe Avenue. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. An engine responded.
