Shelton Fire Department Weekly Calls

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from the last two weeks.

On 06/04/18 at 8:58 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Housatonic River for a report of a distress flare lit on an island. A light from a golf course across the river was mistaken for a distress flare. A utility truck and a marine unit responded.

On 06/05/18 at 3:45 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Bridgeport Avenue and Old Stratford Road. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 06/05/18 at 6:47 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the Valley Firearms at #549 Howe Avenue for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. A water leak from a broken washing machine hose on the third floor of the building caused the water to activate a smoke detector. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/05/18 at 10:48 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the Valley Firearms at #549 Howe Avenue for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. The alarm was transmitted accidentally by repair men. An engine responded.

On 06/06/18 at 12:45 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #25 Freedom Way for an odor in the basement. Firefighters found the odor was from a burned-out water pump. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/06/18 at 1:45 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. Sinsabaugh Heights Housing Complex at #187 Meadow Street for a fire alarm sounding. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/07/18 at 9:10 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to an electrical hazard, power lines down or tree on power lines arcing, at #27 Maler Avenue. An engine responded.

On 06/07/18 at 11:30 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Winter Brothers Recycling Center at #30 Oliver Terrace. There was no fire. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/07/18 at 5:43 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #24 Roaring Brook Lane for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. An engine responded.

On 06/07/18 at 11:36 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the Shelton Intermediate School at #675 North Constitution Boulevard for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. Two engines responded.

On 06/08/18 at 00:16 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a mutual aid to the Derby Fire Department at a fire at #75 Derby Avenue. An engine responded.

ON 06/08/18 at 5:58 pm the White Hills Co. #5, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #11 Martinka Drive for a fire in the kitchen. There was no fire upon arrival of firefighters. A small fire occurred as a result of cooking. Two engines and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/08/18 at 8:56 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Howe Avenue and Cornell Street. An engine responded.

On 06/09/18 at 11:58 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #& Country Place for a carbon monoxide detector activated. An engine responded.

On 06/09/18 at 6:47 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the Birmingham Condo’s at #145 Canal Street for an odor of natural gas in the building. an engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/09/18 at 10:04 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, White Hills Co. #5 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #578 Howe Avenue for smoke in the house. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. Two engines and a tower truck responded.

On 06/10/18 at 03:03 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Helen DeVaux Housing Complex at #91 Howe Avenue for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. An engine responded.

On 06/10/18 at 12:09 pm the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #7 Hidden Pond Lane for an appliance fire. There was no fire. An electrical fire occurred in a microwave oven. Two engines and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/10/18 at 2:05 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #66 Newport Avenue for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. An engine responded.

On 06/11/18 at 3:25 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 8 south between exits 12 and 13. An engine responded

On 06/11/18 at 3:52 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a tractor on fire at Canfield Drive and October Lane. Firefighters found and extinguished a small fire in a garden tractor upon arrival. Two engines responded.

On 06/12/18 at 3:12 pm Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Market Place Plaza #389 Bridgeport Avenue for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. Two engines and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/12/18 at 4:34 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to the area of #142 Kyle’s Way for a brush fire in the rear of the property. Two engines and a utility truck responded.

On 06/12/18 at 6:14 pm Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #375 Bridgeport Avenue for a person stuck in an elevator. One person was freed by firefighters. An engine and a ladder truck responded. 

On 06/12/18 at 11:44 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #55 Soundridge Drive for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. An engine responded

On 06/13/18 at 2:35 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to 3100 Beard Saw Mill Road for a brush fire. Two engines responded.

On 06/14/18 at 12:27 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to Wooster Island on the Housatonic River to check and abandoned boat anchored on the shore. A rescue truck and two marine units responded.

On 06/14/18 at 7:00 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a #37 Stowe Drive for a leaking propane tank. An engine responded.

On 06/14/18 at 7:57 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Coram Avenue near Hill Street. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 06/14/18 at 9:48 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the Avalon Shelton II at #185 Canal Street for an odor of natural gas in the building. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 06/15/18 at 03:22 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Meadow Street at Mayflower Lane. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 06/15/18 at 12:33 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #99 Old Stratford Road for a public service call. An engine responded.

On 06/15/18 at 3:39 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #568 Huntington Street for an open burn. An engine responded.

On 06/16/18 at 11:54 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #412 Howe Avenue for a fire in a store front occupancy. Firefighters arrived and found a fire in a storage room of a petting zoo. The fire extended to the basement before being extinguished by firefighters. The fire caused extensive smoke damage to the apartments above whose tenants were relocated. Adjacent storefronts were also damaged and closed. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office. An engine, a rescue truck and two ladder trucks responded. Mutual aid from the city of Derby FD also responded.

On 06/17/18 at 8:57 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Echo Ambulance Training Center at #286 Howe Avenue for a fire alarm activated. There was no fire. An engine responded

On 06/17/18 at 12:57 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the Duchess Restaurant parking lot at #883 Bridgeport Avenue for a vehicle leaking gasoline. An engine responded.

On 06/17/18 at 3:07 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #15 Briarcliff Road for an odor of gas. An engine responded.

On 06/17/18 at 3:47 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #738 Bridgeport Avenue for a brush fire. An engine responded.
