Shelton Man Charged With Attempted Murder

A 26-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 60-year-old roommate several times Tuesday and was then hit my a car as he tried to flee the scene.

The victim, who was not identified, was listed in critical but stable condition, according to a statement from Detective Richard Bango.

The suspect was identified as Carmelo Rivera, of Shelton.

According to police the two were arguing inside their Howe Avenue apartment when Rivera allegedly attacked the man. The nature of the dispute was not mentioned.

Rivera ran from the scene and was almost immediately struck by a car on Howe Avenue. He was initially listed in critical condition, too.

Rivera is charged with criminal attempt at murder, and first-degree assault of an elderly person.

The crime was reported at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. Rivera was charged about 9:30 a.m. the following morning.
