Update: Shelton Police Ask Residents To Avoid Driving

Update March 8: Shelton City Hall and Shelton Community Center will open at 10 a.m. Plumb Library and the Huntington Branch Library will open at 11 a.m. The Shelton Senior Center will be closed. 

Update 9:15 p.m.: The Shelton Police Department. You has sent notification that power restoration will not begin until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. 

Please take the appropriate precautions. 

As of about 10:30 p.m. the United Illuminating website reported 51 events” in Shelton and 3,891 customers without power, or 21.14 percent of the city.

Update 7:54 p.m.The following message is from the Shelton Police Department:

There have been numerous reports of trees down throughout the city. 

Some trees have become in tangled and power lines causing outages and creating hazardous conditions. 

Motorists are advised to stay off the road ways at this time to allow emergency crews to address these issues.

As of about 8 p.m. the United Illuminating website reported 31 events” in Shelton and 2,868 customers without power, or 15.58 percent of the city.

The following message is from the Shelton Police Department:

Residents scheduled for trash and/or recycling pickup for Thursday, March 8 are advised to wait until 6 a.m. to put out their carts. Pickup will begin shortly after 6 a.m. tomorrow. 

This will help plow drivers clear the roads. 

Additionally, vehicles should only be parked on the even side of the street tonight.
