ANSONIA — Two people were sent to the hospital Friday morning after a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer collided head-on with a school bus on North Main Street.
The Blazer’s driver told police he had been talking on a cell phone when he drifted out of his lane and crashed into the bus, police said in a prepared statement.
The investigation is ongoing and the motorist’s name was not released. He’s 60 years old and is currently in a hospital, police said.
One student sought medical attention because of an injury described as a “minor cut/scratch” by police.
There were 10 students on the bus, which was on its way to a New Haven magnet school. The students ranged in age from 10 to 14. The crash happened at 8:23 a.m.
The initial investigation indicates the Chevrolet was travelling north on North Main Street and crossed the center of the road into the southbound lane striking the bus head on as the bus traveled south,” police said.“The driver of the Chevrolet admitted to the investigating officers to being distracted with his cell phone while driving. The investigation is still ongoing and charges are pending.”
