Two Men Charged In Downtown Shelton Assault

SHELTON Police have charged two men with assaulting a 35-year-old man and leaving him on a downtown sidewalk covered in blood.

In a prepared statement, Detective Christopher Nugent said police were called to the area of 159 Center St. about 1 a.m. Oct. 12 on a report of an unresponsive male laying on the sidewalk covered in blood.”

EMS was dispatched to the scene and transported the 35-year-old male to Yale New Haven Hospital, where the he was treated for serious injuries to his face and body,” Nugent said.

The man was eventually released from the hospital after an extended period of treatment,” Nugent said.

Through interviews, assistance of local downtown business owners, and the public’s assistance, detectives were able to identify two individuals responsible for assaulting the victim,” Nugent said.

Police arrested Kelvin Whitehurst, 31, of Derby Nov. 20 and Coma Fogle, 37, of Waterbury Nov. 28.

Each faces charges of first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, and second-degree breach of peace.

Whitehurst is being held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby Dec. 4, according to judicial branch records.

Fogle was held on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in court Thursday.
