We Love Popcorn Ball Sunday

The East End Hose fire company’s Santa greets kids on Hawthorne Avenue in Derby Sunday.

Popcorn Ball” Sunday was, you guessed it, Sunday in the lower Naugatuck Valley.

It’s a tradition during which Santa rides a fire truck while volunteer firefighters toss gooey, oversized popcorn balls to people.

Volunteer firefighters in Ansonia, Derby, Seymour and Shelton participated.

Here are some photos from Popcorn Ball Sunday” 2017.

Chris Sansone emailed us photos of the annual get together that happens every Popcorn Ball Sunday on High Acres Road in Ansonia. Neighbors make egg sandwiches to give to Santa and his helpers, Sansone said.

Check out Sansone’s photo below.

Dee Ortiz sent this photo of her daughter, 7‑year-old Giyana Lafontant, waving as Santa and the volunteer firefighters came by on a truck Sunday morning.

She was so happy,” Dee said in a message to The Valley Indy.

The photo is posted below.

Kateryna Wojnarowicz of Derby posted a wonderful photo of Santa and her family on The Valley Indy Facebook wall Sunday. It looks like there is a young artist in the family.

We are happy to share Kateryna’s photo below.

Kateryna also posed a video showing Santa, who arrived with the East End Hose fire company, arriving to the delight of the kids.
