Who We Are: Nina Phipps And Gary Farrar Jr. For First Ward Aldermen

ANSONIA The following information was submitted by the candidates, who are Democrats running for First Ward Aldermen in the City of Ansonia:

Gary Farrar Jr. and Nina Phipps commit to being there for Ansonia’s residents and their doors will always be open for anyone who wants to discuss issues that affect them.

Ansonia’s residents should get to know every candidate before voting and come with an open mind when meeting anyone who would want to serve our community regardless of political party.

Here is a little about these two candidates.

Gary Farrar Jr.

Gary has been a resident of Ansonia for 5 years and owns a home with his girlfriend Amber and their rescue dog Ben. He is the oldest son of Mary and Gary Farrar, and has a younger brother Brandon. He is a volunteer firefighter at Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Company 1 in Shelton and Webster Hose Hook and Ladder Company 3 in Ansonia where he has served the people of our city for eight years.

When he’s not volunteering his time, Gary enjoys fishing, skiing, comic books, and visiting local breweries. His favorite sports teams are the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots. He graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, with areas of study in Urban Politics and International Relations, and also received a minor in United States History.

Gary Farrar Jr.

He is currently employed with the City of Milford where he works in the Tax Collector’s office and has developed an understanding of what goes into a healthy grand list.

Gary believes that city hall needs more transparency with its boards and commissions so that residents can be fully engaged in the political process. He also feels that Ansonia needs to bring in jobs that will offer real sustainable careers and help revitalize the city as a whole.

His grandfather Joseph Jeanette Sr. who was a U.S. Marine, Derby firefighter, and former employee of Ansonia Copper and Brass taught him to be a man of integrity and always fight for what’s right. Gary plans to bring that lesson with him to city hall.

Nina Phipps

Nina Phipps was born and raised in Meriden, CT but has lived in the same first ward Rockwood Avenue home for over 24 years. She is a graduate of Albertus Magnus College with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and has worked in the health insurance industry for over 30 years.

She and her husband, Chris, of 31 years have raised their children, Alli, Sarah and Will, in Ansonia, all graduates of Ansonia High School.

Nina Phipps

She served as treasurer for both the Ansonia High School PTSO and Ansonia Youth Football for many years and continues to be an active volunteer in many community activities.

Nina wants to represent Ward 1 and all of Ansonia so that the community has a voice in a transparent and honest government. She will ask questions and will demand accountability from our leaders.

The safety of our neighborhoods is paramount and she commits to working with the residents and the Ansonia Police Department to bring a solution that is satisfying to everyone in the community.
