The Valley Community Foundation (VCF) announced that more than $192,000 is being distributed to 29 nonprofits located in the Valley towns of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton thanks to donor support, matching grants and prizes provided through The Great Give® 2014.
VCF, an affiliate of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven (TCF), was a presenting sponsor of the annual, online giving event created by TCF to raise visibility and support for local nonprofits in the region.

The Valley Indy stopped by the Valley Community Foundation’s offices in Derby recently to talk with VCF President Sharon Closius in advance of “The Great Give 2014,” a 36-hour fundraiser for local nonprofit groups that starts on Tuesday, May 6.

It has been an amazing year for Shelton Robotics!
The Shelton High School Robotics team had much success as the FRC Groton District Champions, New England Regional FRC Champions, & Curie Division tournament competitors in the FIRST World Championship FRC event in St. Louis, MO.
The Shelton Middle School Robotics Program has also had great success! The Perry Hill Dominators were selected the Shelton FLL Grand Champions, Connecticut State FLL Champions, and participants in the North American Open FLL Championships in Carlsbad, CA.

Valley non-profit organizations – the agencies that shore up the cracks in community services – are appealing to potential donors for support during The Great Give® annual fundraising campaign next week.
The Great Give® 2014 is a 36-hour online giving event May 6 and 7 on giveGreater.org®, with presenting sponsors the Valley Community Foundation (VCF) and The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. Non-profits can increase the funds they receive during the drive through matching grants and prizes the foundations have coordinated.

THE GREAT GIVE is on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 6 – 7th.
Starting Tuesday, May 6th, at 8 am, nearly $150,000 will be awarded in matching funds and grant prizes to participating nonprofits with your help.

Editor’s Note: This year’s “Great Give” fundraising campaign through the Valley Community Foundation will take place Tuesday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 7.

In advance of this year’s event, the Valley Indy wanted to illustrate what the campaign means to a local nonprofit, so we asked Shaye Roscoe, the executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, how her organization hopes to use funds raised through this year’s Great Give. Her response is below.
Our goal for the Great Give this year is to raise $6,500 to purchase DonorView, a user-friendly software program designed for Boys & Girls Clubs to allow us to use one integrated platform to track and communicate with all of our donors, events, fundraisers and constituents.
