Electricity returned to nearly 30 percent of Seymour Wednesday afternoon.
The power was restored mostly in the area around the center of town, said Tom Eighmie, emergency management director.

The Oxford school district has announced on its website that schools will remain closed until Monday Nov. 7.
The town’s four schools have been closed since a freak October snow storm caused damage and power outages across town on Oct. 29.

Reporter Tony Spinelli reports from Oxford Town Hall:Oxford should have significant power restoration by Friday, First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers said.
“By the end of the week, that gives them Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we’ll see significant improvement in the number of homes by the end of the week,” Drayton-Rogers said in an interview at Town Hall.

Note — We’re happy to report that after this story was filed, the number of Connecticut Light & Power residents in the dark in Beacon Falls dropped to 68 percent. It had been at 100 percent since the weekend.
UPDATE: CL&P posted information stating power should return to 99 percent of its customers by 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Connecticut Light & Power crews started clearing trees from power lines in Seymour Tuesday morning, according to emergency management director Tom Eighmie.
The crews will return Wednesday to continue work on tree removal, Eighmie said.
There were 27 roads that had trees tangled in wires. Some of those roads were closed, while others are open for traffic, with parts cordoned off, Eighmie said.

A damaged electrical substation on Cold Springs Road in Beacon Falls was repaired today (Tuesday, Nov. 1), but large areas of Beacon Falls, Oxford and Seymour remained without power as of 2:30 p.m.
There is still no word from Connecticut Light & Power as to when power will be restored to Beacon Falls, Oxford and Seymour.
CL&P has said that damage to its high voltage lines has made this recovery much more difficult than Irene.
The effort to clear downed trees and lines off local streets continues.

More than 170 Oxford residents took advantage of the town’s emergency shelter at Quaker Farms School Monday — after a freak October snow storm knocked out power through the entire town on Oct. 29.
The residents used the showers, filled up thermoses with hot coffee and snacked on fresh fruit and pastries available in the lobby of the school.
The shelter is located on Great Oak Road in Oxford.
