Denise Boucher Melita, 90, beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Melita, died peacefully on September 1, 2018 at Saint Mary Home in West Hartford, CT.

A long time resident of Ansonia, CT, she was born December 1, 1927 in Jonquiere, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Narcisse and Hernance Boucher. She grew up with sisters Pierrette, Doris, Cecile, and brother Antonin.

Throughout her long life Denise enjoyed the peace and quiet of the outdoors: early on in northern Quebec, raising children and grandchildren in and around the Connecticut Valley and for many years as a “snow bird.”

She could often be found sitting “under the tree” of her homes in Ansonia and Largo or enjoying an afternoon with friends and family as she did in Elizabeth Park near her final home of West Hartford. Denise always enjoyed lunching with friends, scenic drives, visits from family, and playing cards and rummy cube.

In 1956, in her hometown of Jonquiere, Denise married Joseph James Melita of Derby, CT and they settled in Ansonia, Connecticut to begin their life together.

Denise spent the early years of marriage raising their three children and later worked as a fashion stylist for Beeline. Denise was an active member of the Holy Rosary Church and choir in Ansonia. While living in West Hartford she was an associate member of Fernleigh Lawn Bowling Club.

Denise will be dearly missed by all who knew her. They will remember her smile, sense of humor, and love of life. She is survived by her sister, Cecille Syrett; son Enrico (Rick) Melita and his wife Christina (Tina) Santoni, son James (Jim) Melita and his wife Deborah Melita, daughter Elsie Melita and her husband Frank Mac Hugh, grandson August (Gus) Melita and his wife Aurora Melita, and grandson Charles (Chaz) Melita. Denise is also survived by many wonderful beloved nieces, nephews, close friends and relatives throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.

There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 212 Elizabeth Street, Derby Connecticut on Saturday September 15, 2018 at 11 a.m.

Memorial donations can be sent in her name to Elizabeth Park Conservancy, 1561 Asylum Ave, West Hartford, CT 06117.
