Joseph J. Chosczyk, age 95, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 7, 2018, in Griffin Hospital, with his daughter and granddaughter by his side. He was the beloved and devoted husband of the late Helen Manna Chosczyk, who recently passed away.

Mr. Chosczyk was born in Ansonia on December 20, 1922, son of the late Alexander and Emilia Biedrzycka Choszczyk. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was co-owner of the former Emily’s Flower Shop in Hamden and later was employed as a Tool & Die Setter at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford where he retired after 27 years. He was also a dedicated employee of Hamden Memorial Funeral Home for over 40 years. A proud WW II veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corp. aboard the U.S.S. Vicksburg during the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Joe loved sports and was an avid fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed travelling to the casino and especially spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving son, Joseph “Jay” Chosczyk (Elaine) of Ansonia, a loving daughter, Carol A. Grabinski (Leo) of Woodbridge, precious grandchildren, Amy Grabinski, Ryan Grabinski (Casey) and Alexander Chosczyk, three step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Saturmin and Thaddeus Choszczyk, sisters, Jean Luciano, Marge Royka and Noela Novack and two step-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday February 11, 2018, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.

On Monday, his funeral will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Marine military honors will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. The family sends a heart-felt thank you to the nurses and staff of Bishop Wicke Health Center in Shelton for their wonderful care.
