About 1,600 people were still without power in Ansonia as of 4 p.m.
As of 2:30, United Illuminating crews were working in two affected neighborhoods, according to Eileen Krugel, spokesperson for Ansonia’s Emergency Management Office.
The following areas remained in the dark Tuesday afternoon:
- Woodbridge Avenue, and surrounding streets
- Silver Hill and Hull Street
- Beechwood Drive and Crestwood Drive
- Chester Street
Krugel said at 2 p.m. UI crews were on scene working to repair lines in the Woodbridge Avenue neighborhood and Beechwood area.
Five utility truck crews were working on downed power lines at Clark Street, near Woodbridge Avenue, on Tuesday about 3 p.m.
Crew members said Clark Street would be back online by Tuesday night.
“That would be fantastic,” said Clark Street resident Tom Vannostrand, who was out walking with his wife, Liz, Tuesday afternoon.
A telephone pole had snapped during Hurricane Irene on Clark Street, bringing down power lines and equipment.
Krugel said UI crews expected to be on Silver Hill Road by the end of the day.
Krugel said that the city hasn’t received many calls for help during the power failure.
“No one has approached us,” she said. “We haven’t had any requests. People have been really patient. When they look at how the other towns fared, we know we were pretty darn lucky.”
“If anybody calls and has needs, obviously we would address them,” Krugel added.
Anyone who needs assistance because of the storm is asked to call the Ansonia Police Department at (203) 735‑1885.
