2020 Voters Guide: Seymour Edition

SEYMOUR — Here is a guide to the November ballots in Seymour.

Election Day 2020 is Nov. 3! Polling places will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.

The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 27. 

The Seymour Registrar of Voters Office will be open on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Same-day registration is also available on Election Day, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

In Seymour, same-day Election Day registration will be at Seymour Town Hall, 1 First St., according to the spreadsheet available on the Secretary of State’s website.

Voting By Mail

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, every voter was sent an application for an absentee ballot. If you don’t have your application, click this link for a printable PDF application. 

As of this writing, Election Day is nine days away. If you have not submitted your application for an absentee ballot and do not have an absentee ballot, call the Seymour Town Clerk’s office at 203 – 888-0519 for instructions.

COMPLETED absentee ballots can be mailed to the Seymour Town Clerk’s Office, 1 First St., Seymour, CT 06483. Absentee ballots can also be placed in a secure ballot box outside Seymour Town Hall.

Note: On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Gov. Ned Lamont urged people to drop off their ballots in their local drop-off box, given the fact that Election Day (Nov. 3) is so close.

“You should not rely on #USPS mail delivery at this point,” Lamont said in a Tweet.

The deadline to return absentee ballots in Connecticut is 8 p.m. Nov. 3.

Voting In Person

You do not have to vote by mail if you don’t want to vote by mail.

You can vote in-person in Seymour at your regular polling place.

District 1: Seymour Community Center, 20 Pine St.

District 2: Seymour Middle School, 211 Mountain Road

District 3: Chatfield-Lopresti School, 51 Skokorat St.

Federal Races

This year there is a U.S. Presidential election, as you probably heard. The choices for U.S. President (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, and Green) will appear on every ballot.

The three candidates for U.S. Congress District 3 will also appear on every Seymour ballot:

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro is running on the Democratic and Working Families lines.

Candidate Margaret Streicker is running on the Republican and Independent lines.

Candidate Justin Paglino is running on the Green Party line.

State Senate District 32

This Election Day voters in Seymour are being asked to choose state Senators to represent the town in Hartford.

A large chunk of Seymour is in state Senatorial District 32. Part of the town is in state Senate District 21. 

In District 32, incumbent state Sen. Eric C. Berthel of Watertown is running on the Republican line.

Candidate Jeffrey Desmarais of Watertown is running on the Democratic Party’s line.

State Senate District 32 includes Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, Southbury, Washington, Watertown, and Woodbury.

State Senate District 21

Part of Seymour falls into state Senatorial District 21.

Incumbent state Sen. Kevin Kelly is running unopposed.

The district includes Monroe, Seymour, Shelton and Stratford.

State House of Representatives

The 105th District

State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria and challenger Chris Bowen.

The two candidates to represent Seymour in the Connecticut House of Representatives appear on all ballots in Seymour’s three voting districts.

The district includes Beacon Falls, west Derby (generally west of North Avenue) and Seymour.
