Citizens will soon have an opportunity to weigh in on what could be the city’s first age 55 and over residential development.
The Planning and Zoning Commission Monday scheduled a public hearing for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 to discuss an application to build 22 units of “55 plus” housing off Hull Street.

The plans have been slightly altered since they were first presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission in September by TWC Development LLC.
Instead of turning an existing single-family home already located on the property into a community center, as originally proposed, the plans now call for making the home a single-family unit, and building a separate community center in a more central location.
“It will be gutted out completely and will be essentially brand new,” said Ray Sadlik, the principal owner of TWC Development.
Ansonia regulations require “centrally-located” community centers be included for all 55 and over subdivisions, according to Bart Flaherty, chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Commissioners were initially concerned the single family house was too far away from some units and would not have enough parking.
Sadlik said the condominiums would be cottage style homes, with vaulted ceilings, one-car garages and gas fire places.
The homes would have one first-floor bedroom and a loft area where a second bedroom could go. He said the grounds would have bocci courts, a gazebo and a gardening area, and the plans allow for recreation-vehicle parking near the Route 8 line.
Sadlik estimated the units might be put on the market for $250,000 to $300,000 each.
