Abe Lincoln Will Be In Seymour Sunday

What was Abe Lincoln really like?

Get a unique view of the nation’s 16th president during a special program at the Seymour Historical Society on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.

The program, A Visit with Lincoln,” will feature Steve Wood, who has won awards for his presidential portrayal.

Matching Lincoln’s height and sporting his trademark beard, Wood bears enough of a resemblance to Honest Abe to turn heads even when not wearing black trousers, vest, frock coat and stovepipe hat.

Wood’s program includes anecdotes from Lincoln’s 1860 visit to New England, stories of his early life, discussion of his campaign debates with Stephen Douglas, thoughts on the Civil War and a reading of the Gettysburg Address.

Wood, a New Hampshire resident, has been portraying Lincoln at historical societies, libraries, schools, and community events since 1995. He and his wife, Sharon, are members of the Association of Lincoln Presenters and have twice been recognized by the group as the Best Abraham and Mary Lincoln Team.

The Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West Street, near the Trinity Episcopal Church.

The program is free to historical society members and $3 per person ($5 per couple) for non-members.

Doors open at 1 p.m. for those interested in viewing the museum’s exhibits.
