Police Arrest Accused Shelton Counterfeiter’s Father

Shelton police on Thursday arrested the father of a man accused in a counterfeiting scheme last week.

They say the man arrested Thursday, Gary Ouellet, 48, passed counterfeit $20 bills at the Cumberland Farms on River Road.

Gary Ouellet’s son, Kyle, was arrested last week on a charge of first-degree forgery after police raided the family’s Shinnacock Trail home.

When authorities raided the home last week, they found $7,000 in counterfeit money in different stages of print,” Detective Sgt. Kevin Ahern said at the time.

Ahern said Friday that police arrested Kyle Ouellet, 22, last week because the counterfeit money was in his room at the house.

They didn’t find any incriminating evidence in Gary Ouellet’s room during the raid, Ahern said, but believe he had passed counterfeit $20 bills at the Cumberland Farms on River Road this month.

So police applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Gary Ouellet, which they served Thursday.

Gary Ouellet was charged with first-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny in the case. He was released Thursday after posting $5,000 bond and will appear at Superior Court in Derby June 7.

Kyle Ouellet has been behind bars since his arrest. He is currently being held at Bridgeport Correctional Center in lieu of $30,000 bond and will appear at Superior Court in Derby June 1.

Police said no more arrests are expected in the case.
