Acting Supervisor Named At ARMS

The Ansonia Rescue Medical Services commission Thursday named EMT Jared Heon as the acting day staff supervisor.

Heon will take over for Joanne Sjogren, who resigned this week after being reprimanded for violating the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a law that protects patient privacy.

The job involves managing the paid staff in the department, setting schedules and filing necessary paperwork.

Heon said looked forward to taking over the role, and said he plans to apply for the job when the commission advertises for it.

He will make the same salary as Sjogren received, about $49,000 a year.

I want to stress that I definitely want to make an effort to work closely between the paid staff and volunteers, and the city,” Heon said Thursday evening.

Heon, 27, is a lifelong Ansonia resident who sits on the Planning and Zoning Commission. He is a volunteer firefighter and was a volunteer EMT for ARMS before joining the paid staff in October 2009.

Heon’s full-time job is as a dispatcher for the Shelton Police Department.

Stephen Blume, a member of the ARMS commission, said he believed Heon was absolutely competent” to handle the new role.

You have to step up. You have a lot to do,” Blume said during the meeting. She did do a lot of things here.”

Sjogren submitted a letter of resignation saying that her last day would be Sept. 24. However, ARMS voted Thursday that her last day would be effective immediately, and she would be paid through the 24th.

We have to secure things,” Blume said. It has to be done.”
