AFT CT Chapter Endorses Eight Candidates In Ansonia

ANSONIA — The Ansonia Town Democratic Committee announced Thursday that eight members of the Row A slate running for election in Ansonia have been endorsed by the American Federation of Teachers, Connecticut Chapter.

Endorsed candidates include Board of Education candidates Lauren Todd and David Knapp, as well as Board of Aldermen candidates John Feddern, Gary Farrar, Diane Stroman, Brian Perkins, David Rhodes, and Chris Grizzle.

While the Board of Education oversees education operations, it is important to note that the Board of Aldermen approves city funding of Ansonia schools.

It is a true honor to be able to support such a strong group of candidates in Ansonia. They each will provide an amazing level of passion, thought, and diversity that is greatly needed. Every one of them has a proven track record of supporting kids. These are THE candidates running in support of education in Ansonia. Our students and community will be better off because of them if elected,” said Matt Hough, President of the Ansonia Chapter of AFT.

The rigorous endorsement process requires both a written application and an interview process where union members — who are also educators — evaluate the candidates.

The slate of endorsed candidates include a UCONN professor, a candidate who coached local baseball for nearly 20 years, the Mentorship Coordinator for Ansonia Public Schools, and candidate who serve on the boards of Valley Save Our Youth, the Youth Juvenile Review Board, the Boys and Girls Club, Boys Scouts of America Housatonic Council, Valley Community Foundation, and more.
