Alderman’s Letter: Derby Democrats Use Taxpayer Money For Political Gain

DERBY — Deceptive politics at the taxpayer’s expense. On August 30th, 2021, the Democratic party pulled off the greatest deceptive move during the Special Meeting of the Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen, but poorly executed the result at the taxpayer’s expense.

During the meeting, one of the agenda items was to spend $5,200 of taxpayer’s money to send out applications for Absentee Ballots for the November Mayoral Election. This, in and of itself, has become a trend across the United States to bolster the voting numbers.

So, let us look at the facts behind this proposed item.

This item was placed on the agenda by the President of the Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen Joe DiMartino, who is the Democrat running for Mayor.

The Town/City Clerk, Marc Garofalo, incidentally the Derby Democratic Town Committee Vice President, proposed this item to be put on the agenda.

This item took $5,200.00 of taxpayer’s money from our municipality, that could have been utilized for other purposes, to fund this scheme.

During the meeting, Mr. Garofalo stated for the record that based upon the amount expended in overtime he faced with absentee ballots in the last Mayoral election, sending out early registrations for absentee ballots would curb that expense, which is absurd. As you know, if you send out more registrations for absentee ballots, then you get more back.

Anyone who wants an absentee ballot can do so by going to the State of Connecticut’s website or by coming into City Hall in person, neither of which cost the taxpayers of Derby a dime.

This alone makes the $5,2000.00 expense a wildly inappropriate use of taxpayer funds.

The game being crafted by the Democrats is obvious. With a 2:1 voter registration in favor of Democrats in the City of Derby, odds are that more absentee ballots are requested by registered Democrats.

The good news is that there are more Unaffiliated voters than Democrats and Republicans. They see through this trick, the Republicans see through this trick, and Democrats who see how well this city has been run under Mayor Dziekan see through this trick. This trick won’t work, but this action does expose the Democrat’s willingness to use your taxpayer funds for their political gain. Extremely sad.

This item passed unanimously by the Democrats on the board that night yet was rejected by the Republicans and Unaffiliated as we saw through this trick. A well-played strategy by Mr. Garofalo and the Democratic Town Committee, yet a poor execution as it was done at the expense of the hard-working men and women of the great City of Derby.
