Ansonia’s Arkeel Newsome rushed for 319 yards and scored six touchdowns in Thursday’s 49 – 20 win over Torrington.
“It’s Arkeel time in Chargerland,” says the headline topping Rick Wilson’s colorful story published on the Republican-American’s website overnight.
“Mr. Newsome made opening night pretty miserable in the Valley for the Raiders,” Wilson writes. “Welcome to the newest addition that will sour the NVL stomachs. Oh, and by the way, he is just a sophomore.”

Register Citizen sports editor Dan Podheiser notes that Torrington’s Brendan Lytton ran for 332 yards and six touchdowns.
“Lytton’s performance was great. Newsome’s was out-of-this-world,” Podheiser says.
