An alleged drug dealer who forced two people to jump from his vehicle during a chase almost two years ago was captured Friday, a detective said.
Shaun Reed, 23, of Bridgeport, led police on a pursuit in the summer of 2008 after allegedly completing a drug deal in his car. He bolted when he saw police approaching, Detective Ben Trabka said in a statement.
Reed, driving at a high rate of speed, jumped onto Route 8 north to get away from police. However, the two people he allegedly sold drugs to were still in his vehicle.
After smashing into several cars during his getaway in rush hour traffic, Reed forced his two buyers to jump from vehicle, police said.
That brought the chase to a grinding halt, as police had to tend to the victims, who, luckily, did not suffer serious injuries.
It took more than a year to identify, then track down Reed, who was arrested at his Bridgeport residence with assistance from Derby detectives and members of the Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force.
Reed was charged with two counts of unlawful restraint, criminal conspiracy sale of narcotics, engaging police in pursuit and reckless driving.
He posted a $50,000 bond and is due in Superior Court in Derby March 15.
