American Flag Is Focus Of Seymour Historical Society Program

The long and glorious history of the American flag will be the focus of a program at the Seymour Historical Society on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m.

With Memorial Day right around the corner, the Emil Senger American Legion Post 10 Bicentennial Flag History Team will trace the history of Old Glory from the landing of the Vikings a thousand years ago to the present version with 50 stars and 13 stripes.

They’ll display full-sized versions of some famous flags, share stories about iconic flags from the Colonial era and also offer interesting information on flag protocol, such as who is authorized to order the Stars and Stripes flown at half-mast and why it’s folded a certain way.

The Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West Street, near the Trinity Episcopal Church. Admission is free for Seymour Historical Society members and $5 for non-members.

Seating is limited to 65 people, so arrive early to claim a seat.

Doors open at 1 p.m. For more information, contact psussman@snet.net, call 203 – 881-2156 or visit www.seymourhistoricalsociety.org.
