In this photo, Derby Elks Lodge #571 House Committee Member Frank Cirino (left) gets ready to load a table from the John H. Collins American Legion Post 24 of Derby onto a van to be delivered along with over 50 chairs and more tables to the Elks Lodge located on Elizabeth Street.
The American Legion Post 24 is closing up after 55 years (1956) at its Caroline Street location and will now hold its meetings at the Veterans Building located at the intersections of Atwater and Seymour avenues, with the cannon landmark. Rising maintenance costs and declining membership was the reason the building was put up for sale, and purchased by Disability Resource Network Inc.
Also taking a break from the move to pose for a photo are Elk House Committee Member Anita Dugatto, American Legion Adjutant Bernie Williamson and Derby Elks Exalted Ruler Jerry Coolidge. Albert Chapman is in the background getting ready to load some chairs.
The items moved were donated from the American Legion to the Elks as a way of one organization helping another. Items were also donated to the Catholic War Veterans Post 1562 located on Derby Avenue .
