Annoying News In Oxford

Someone stole a Welcome to Oxford” sign from the junction of Chestnut Tree Hill Road and Route 42.

The attractive wooden signs were an initiative of First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers’ administration. The sign cost about $600. The town offered sponsorships to offset the costs.

Groups who sponsored the signs included the Oxford High School Booster Club, the Oxford PTO and the Oxford Land Trust.

The fact someone would steal a sign meant to boost pride in Oxford has annoyed local officials.

It’s a shame that one person’s thoughtless actions should be directed toward the pride that so many feel for our town,” Drayton-Rogers said.

A public works employee noticed the sign was missing Tuesday.

Anyone with information should call police at 203 – 888-4353. All tips will remain confidential.

We’re hoping somebody saw something, somebody knows something. It is a larceny, it is a crime,” said Sgt. Daniel Semosky, Resident State Trooper supervisor.
