Five days after thieves stole a 40-foot long machine valued at more than $100,000 from the Department of Public Works, police are investigating another heavy equipment theft, this time from a private company on the same street as the DPW.
Lt. Paul Satkowski confirmed Friday detectives are investigating a theft at Vermeer Northeast, at 770 Derby Avenue, a company that sells heavy equipment mostly used in the tree removal business.
A company worker at the store would not discuss the case.
However, the Valley Indy has learned the theft involved a machine valued at about $100,000.
Satkowski also would not elaborate on the theft.
The Seymour police log showed a suspicious activity report came in for Derby Avenue at 9:37 p.m. Thursday. Then, at 11:33 p.m. the incident log showed a theft was reported.
Detectives were at the scene Friday morning, examining the gate to the Vermeer Northeast.
Five days ago town DPW workers were at the yard at 721 Derby Avenue about 3 a.m. preparing for snow, when they discovered their equipment was missing. The Valley Indy was the first publication to report on the theft.
