ANSONIA — The Board of Aldermen voted to appoint Bobbie Tar to fill a vacancy on the board in the Second Ward.

Tar was appointed unanimously during a vote taken during a meeting online Tuesday.

Tar replaces Tarek Raslan, who recently resigned from the city’s legislative body after moving out of the city.

Raslan was a Democrat. Tar is unaffiliated, though she ran on the Republican line for Second Ward Alderman in 2019.

There are 10 Republicans on the Board of Aldermen and three Democrats on the 14-member body, according to the city’s website.

Tar is a retired probation officer. She works as a truancy officer & youth outreach coordinator within Shelton Public Schools.

Tar took the oath of office, which was administered by Mayor David Cassetti, online, using the Zoom video conferencing software.

Cassetti called Tar one of the toughest and hardest-working people he knows.

Tar thanked the public officials and that she looks forward to working with the mayor and the Board of Aldermen.

There were no other nominations for the vacancy.

Tar’s seat is up for re-election in November 2021.
