Ansonia Blizzard Cleanup Update

Mayor James Della Volpe issued a message Thursday, Feb. 14 updating residents on recovery efforts in the wake of the Blizzard of 2013.

Among the highlights —- parking ban ends 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, the Senior Center reopens Friday, Feb. 15, and no school until Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Here is the full text of Della Volpe’s message:

This is a Mayor James Della Volpe with a Code Red alert from the City of Ansonia. The city crews and private contractors are making headway with the efforts to clean and widen the city roadways. This will continue until all streets have been completed.

—The parking ban on all city streets will end at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15.

—City Hall and the library are open today and the Senior Center will reopen on Friday, February 15.

— All schools are closed today. The schools will reopen on Tuesday, February 19.

I want to take this time to thank those residents who have been helping their neighbors and emergency workers with this monumental task.

The city crews and private contractors have been working long hours since Friday morning to open and clean the streets.

I understand the frustration being felt by residents regarding the street closures and delays but I assure you that all efforts were made to complete this cleanup as quickly as possible.

Again, thank you for your help and understanding. I know that all of us, including myself, hope that Spring comes VERY early this year.
