FILEThe 36 inches of snow that fell on Ansonia during February’s blizzard is a new state record.

The National Weather Service announced Tuesday that Ansonia’s total of 36 inches of snow during a single 24-hour period has been verified by a panel of experts, and tops the previous record of 30 inches set in 1969 in Falls Village, an area of Canaan, in northwest Connecticut.
