State Representative Linda Gentile (D‑Ansonia and Derby) joined Mayor James Della Volpe and other members of the Board of Alderman in honoring the Ansonia Coppers Cheerleading Squad for placing 1st at the national championship in Orlando, Florida.
“This group of young women acted as ambassadors of our city and did Ansonia proud by demonstrating that our youngsters are not afraid of commitment and hard work,” Rep. Gentile stated. “They have my admiration; taking first place in a national competition is quite an accomplishment.”
The group of girls, age 12 and under, first competed in the northeast regional cheerleading competition at the XL Center in Harford held in November. The top three teams then advanced to the national championship competition in Orlando, Florida in December.
The squad, along with their coaches, was recognized for their accomplishment at the January 12th meeting of the Ansonia Board of Aldermen.
