ANSONIA — An act of kindness by a new Ansonia police officer went viral on social media over the weekend.
According to a post on Facebook on Friday from Wendelyn Narvaez, her grade-school grandson Landen was selling lemonade when he was approached by Officer Joel Perez.
Perez asked what the child how he planned to use his profits from the lemonade stand. Landen wanted new sneakers, colored blue, according to Narvaez.
The officer left and returned with a new, store-bought pair of blue sneakers, according to a photograph posted on social media.
“Landen was surprised and couldn’t believe it,” Narvaez wrote on the public Facebook post.
Perez, a former military police officer, was hired by the Ansonia Police Department in March, according to a post on the Ansonia Police Department’s Facebook page.
Ansonia Police Chief Wayne Williams learned about the interaction hours after it was posted to Facebook, where it was shared hundreds of times.
“These are the types of officers that we are all looking to hire,” Williams wrote in an email to The Valley Indy.
