Ansonia Dealer Gets 10 Years

A city coke dealer was sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison Tuesday.

Jose “Gordo” Batista, 34, formerly of Hubbell Avenue, will be on eight years of supervision after he is released from jail, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney David Fein’s office.

Batista pleaded guilty last year to a charge of conspiracy to possess and intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.

Prosecutors said Batistia — who has five narcotics trafficking convictions to his name — supplied cocaine for a criminal enterprise known as the Sanchez organization. They sold drugs throughout greater Bridgeport.

Forty-six people connected to the criminal enterprise have been prosecuted, authorities said, as part of “Operation G‑Force,” a multi-agency law enforcement investigation into area narcotics sales led by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force.

“The year-long investigation, which led to the federal prosecution of 46 individuals, included the use of court-authorized wiretaps, controlled purchases of cocaine, crack cocaine, and heroin, search warrants, and physical surveillance,” federal spokesman Tom Carson said in a prepared statement.

Batista was also ordered to give up a 2008 Toyota Avalon and $1,770 in cash.
