Ansonia Firefighters Extinguish Small Porch Fire

Justin Beall was in his North State Street home about 3:30 p.m. Thursday when he noticed smoke coming from his neighbor’s side porch at 184 North State St.

Small flames appeared from underneath the siding near a side door, Beall said.

So Beall rushed over to the house with a pot filled with water — trying to put the small outdoor porch fire out.

It didn’t work — the flames came back. But the Ansonia Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire soon after arriving a couple minutes later.

Assistant Fire Chief Ed Adamowski said the fire did not spread inside the home and there was only minimal damage to the outside of the house.

Right now it’s undetermined as to the cause of the fire,” Adamowski said. We did find some carelessly discarded smoking material.”

Adamowski said people were home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured.

The department checked the home and basement for hot spots using a thermal imaging camera, and found no fire inside the building.
