Ansonia Firehouse Collecting Food Donations On Halloween

This Halloween (Oct. 31), Eagle Hose Co. #6 in Ansonia will be accepting food donations to benefit the Kathleen C. B. Samela Memorial Food Pantry which is located in Ansonia.

Eagle Hose members will be stationed at the firehouse, which is located at 1 Main St. in Ansonia (across from Farrel’s), from 5 to 9 p.m. to accept donations of perishable and non-perishable food items. As in years past, we will also be distributing candy on Halloween. So feel free to stop on by a safe haven with your trick-or-treater(s) and also make a donation to a local food pantry as well.

The firehouse will open its doors again on Monday, Nov. 14 to accept more donations which will benefit local families in need as we head into the holiday season. The firehouse will be staffed from 5 to 9 p.m. on this evening as well.

The Kathleen C. B. Samela Memorial Food Pantry, located at Christ Episcopal Church, services the Ansonia area primarily, and they have a few clients from Derby and Seymour as well. Last year the Pantry provided more than 240,000 nutritionally balanced meals, and through September of this year they have had over 8,100 client visits and have provided over 187,000 meals.

They anticipate providing close to 250,000 meals by the end of 2016.

Representatives of the food bank have provided a list (see below) of food items which are distributed the most. Also, both evenings a representative from the Food Pantry will be available to accept monetary donations. So please stop by and help in any way you can.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. Thank you in advance.
