One shooting is too many. But multiple shootings in the same areas are unacceptable. The West side, the North End, downtown … we need a call to action.
The hilltop had robberies so the current administration had community meetings, and police patrols were increased until the crimes were stopped. This was a great community effort to stop harmful activity. Where is this type of action for the North End and the First Ward?
We have already met with the Chief of Police to discuss the area and begin the conversation of ideas and solutions.
We are sure there are undercover patrols in the area, but we need uniformed beat police officers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Uniformed officers are a deterrent for loitering, illegal activity and violent crimes.
We also need active and consistent Community Block Watch meetings.
Where are our Alderman?
Why aren’t our elected city officials looking for answers and talking directly with the community? Ansonia is more than just Main Street and the hilltop. There are many other areas that need just as much action and attention, possibly even more so.
We need collaboration between elected officials, the police force and the community that lives and breathes the issues daily.
Without active collaboration, nothing will change.
The safety and well-being of our residents is paramount. We commit to creating and maintaining community meetings and working with our police force and city hall to eliminate problematic activities.
Gary Farrar Jr. and Nina Phipps, candidates for Ansonia First Ward Alderman
