The Valley is mourning the death of former Ansonia High School football captain Darnell Cooks.

The 25-year-old 2005 graduate of Ansonia High School died in a car crash June 18 in Bridgeport.

Cooks was the captain of the Ansonia Chargers football team in 2004.

… he was a kid everybody liked,” Ansonia football coach Tom Brockett told sports writer Sean Patrick Bowley. He had different way about him. There really was only one Darnell. He was a real likeable kid, a good hearted kid that everybody loved being around. He’ll always be remembered. He’ll always be loved.”

Cooks’ obituary is available here.
