Ansonia High School Going Online Thursday & Friday

ANSONIA — Classes will move online at Ansonia High School for the rest of the week as district officials await the results of a COVID-19 test for a person connected to the school.

We are currently investigating a possible Covid-19 case at Ansonia High School that has come to our attention within the past 24 hours,” Ansonia Public Schools Superintendent Joseph DiBacco said in a letter to parents Nov. 11. To be clear, we are waiting on test results and we do not have any confirmed positive cases.”

However, out of an abundance of caution, DiBacco said the district has opted to switch to online learning for high school students on Thursday, Nov. 12 and Friday, Nov. 13.

Ansonia, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour and Shelton had daily positive test results that have put the communities in the red alert” zone on the state Department of Health’s COVID-19 map. The map is updated every Thursday. The number of red alert towns has grown from 11 to 30 to 68 in three weeks.

The Assumption School in Ansonia also went online this week. The Catholic school is dealing with three positive cases — one student and two teachers.

Seymour Public Schools are online-only until Nov. 30. The district also sent word Nov. 9 that two middle school students tested positive for COVID-19.

Shelton Public Schools are online-only until January, the district announced this week.

Derby Public Schools have been largely spared so far, with just two student cases and two staff cases since school started Sept. 8, according to a Tweet from Derby School Board Chairman Jim Gildea.

Ansonia and Oxford city/town halls announced closures after COVID-19 cases at those locations this week.
