Ansonia High School Senior Gets $5,000 Julian A. Taylor Scholarship

The following press release was sent to the Valley Indy by the Julian A. Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund:

The Julian A. Taylor Scholarship Committee announces 2024 Ansonia High School graduate, Rickayla Blagrove, is the recipient of the 2024, $5,000 Julian A. Taylor Scholarship. She will be attending Quinnipiac University where she will major in Biology with the goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. 

The Julian A. Taylor Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 to honor and continue the ideals of the late Rev. Dr. Julian A. Taylor, former Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church. 

The $5,000 Julian A. Taylor Scholarship Award is presented to the highest ranking African American Senior with an 85 or above average attending a four-year University/College. In addition, 20 African American students in grades 3 to 11 attending Ansonia Public Schools will receive a $100 JAT Scholars award. The students are Sanaa Middleton, Airieonna Richards, Miley Tavarez, Aaliyah Ballester, Sarai Garland, Amiyah Freeman, Marquis Evans, Ta’Jahna Reynolds, Eviana Stewart, Tomisin Lawal, Jefferson Voka, Isabelle Richards, Joshua Gomes, Addison Stewart, Machla Masanka, Omarion Wynter, Adrio Rodrigues, Beatrice Sherman, and Cardell Byrd. 

The 42nd award dinner will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the Grassy Hill Country Club, Orange, CT. Ticket donation is $45.00.

The event speaker will be Kathy Turner Taylor, the newly appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Connecticut Community Foundation, Waterbury. Mrs. Taylor is a graduate of Hampton University and the University of Connecticut School of Law Prior to her position at CCF, she has been a professor of legal studies at Connecticut State Community College (formerly Naugatuck Valley Community College for 17 years.
