Ansonia Historical Commission Awards Essay Contest Winners

The Ansonia Historical Commission held its annual essay contest award presentation at City Hall Thursday. The contest theme was People Who Make a Difference to the City of Ansonia.” Mayor James Della Volpe addressed the winners and guests in the Aldermanic Chambers adding that the top three essays will be posted in the first floor hallway of City Hall for the next few weeks for public display.

The essay of third place winner, Silvija Isaku (not present), was noted along with honorable mentions to: Ashley Adams, Connor D’Amico, Sydney Arruda, Michael Derbyshire, Tierney Lawlor, Rachel Licsak, Thomas Majchrzak, Karalyn Meineke, Kaelyn Sheehy, and Tobechukwu Umeugo.

The theme was geared towards David Humphreys’ accomplishments within Ansonia along with another comparable person past or present, who has made a difference. The other people mentioned in essays ranged from Anson Phelps, Margaret O’Reilly, John Sponheimer, Mayor Della Volpe to the writer’s family members. Contest participants were from Ansonia Public Schools and Assumption School.
