Riverside Residents Meet Tonight

The Ansonia Housing Authority plans to outline steps it will take to help alleviate problems at the Riverside apartment complex on Olson Drive at a public meeting with residents at 5 p.m. tonight.

The meeting comes in response to two murders that happened at the complex since June.

At the hearing, Ansonia police will also give an overview of their investigation into the two killings – which happened on June 21 and July 15. While police have arrested a woman in the first murder, they are still searching for the suspects in the second one.

The hearing will take place at the complex’s community center on Olson Drive.

It is open to the public, but only residents at the apartment complex will be permitted to speak.

Several have already expressed concerns to the Housing Authority in the wake of the killings – asking for stricter security, curfews and other measures to keep their families safe.

Officials from the authority met with the leaders of the tenants’ association last week to discuss those ideas more in depth. Housing Authority Executive Director James Finnucan said he expects to issue some specific suggestions at tonight’s meeting.

One idea already being implemented is opening an authority office at the apartment complex. Wednesday, the office smelled of fresh paint, and was waiting for the floors to be waxed and the phone lines to be installed.

Finnucan said he expects the office to be operational next week.
