ANSONIA – Police announced March 10 the arrest of a local man after neighbors reported hearing shots fired from a house’s window.
Ryan Ortiz, 39, was arrested and charged with five counts of criminal possession of a firearm, and two counts of criminal possession of a pistol, police said. He was arraigned March 10 and his bond set at $250,000.
According to a press release, police received multiple calls from Franklin Street around 10:30 p.m. March 7. A caller reported seeing a gun sticking out of a window of a house, firing into the woods. Police arrived and talked to Ortiz, the owner of the house.
Ortiz wasn’t charged with firing the gun – but police obtained a search warrant and found in his home two handguns, a shotgun, three BB guns, and ammo, according to the press release. Ortiz was legally barred from owning firearms due to prior felony convictions out of state.
Police also found shell casings littered outside the home, they said.
Police said they are still investigating who fired the gun March 7 and that they expect to bring additional charges.
In court, Ortiz’s next court date was set for April 15.
