Ansonia Man Charged For Robbery Outside Dunkin’ Donuts

Ansonia police arrested a city man for allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint at the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot on Pershing Drive Sunday.

Ruben Ramos, 28, of 33 Hodge Ave., was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and threatening. 

Police said on Sunday at about 5:24 p.m., Ramos allegedly went up to a woman in the parking lot and threatened her with a gun he had in his waistband. 

The woman had stopped for a coffee on her way home from her shift at the nearby Cumberland Farms on Pershing Drive. She had with her the receipts and a large sum of cash” from the register at Cumberland Farms, according to a press release issued by Lt. Andrew Cota. 

The woman was heading to the bank with the money, Cota said. 

But Ramos allegedly took the receipts and cash from the woman in the parking lot of the Dunkin’ Donuts. Cota would not disclose how much money was stolen. 

The robber fled the scene in a black car.

Police said they were able to identify Ramos from the description, because they knew him from previous non-criminal” contact with him. Police called him up and he turned himself in at Ansonia Police Department later that night. The money was recovered at his relative’s home in Bridgeport. 

Ramos was arraigned at Superior Court in Derby on Monday, according to the press release. 

Police expect more arrests in the case.
